In my opinion evil is needed. As my little brother (9yrs. old) says without satan making you make mistakes you wouldn’t learn anything” (Anonymous, 2013). Without evil there are no lessons to learn from, no pain, no good, no love. Nothing in this world exists without someone observing it. As people we have to have something for us to compare things too in order for us to believe it. If you didn’t know that without your seatbelt you could die in a car crash would you wear it? Probably not. Why? Because you don’t know the opposite which is that without it, a car crash can kill you. We must “make up” or allow “evil”, bad decisions, angry feelings, and bad deeds into our lives so we can learn. The trick is to ALLOW it. Not deny it, but to accept it, learn from it, and move towards the love. Speaking from a religious point of view, we were made in God’s image correct? God being the Alpha and the Omega, everything including evil? In my mind being made in God’s image means being able to conceive evil and therefore love. Take the story of Adam and Eve for example. If Eve wouldn’t have ate the apple we would have no human evolution, no reproduction, no conception of evil and therefore no conception of love. Without evil we cannot appreciate love for what it is. So then the question must be asked “Is evil, evil?” Or is it just a matter of our perception and lack of understanding for the balance of life?
